Ingredients

For this elegant yet simple dish, you'll need the following ingredients:

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade), thawed
  • 1 wheel of brie cheese (about 8 ounces)
  • 1/4 cup of your favorite jam or preserves (apricot, raspberry, or fig are excellent choices)
  • 1/4 cup of chopped nuts (optional, walnuts or pecans work well)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Crackers or baguette slices, for serving

Instructions

  • Prepare the Puff Pastry
Begin by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet to remove any creases and ensure it’s large enough to fully encase the brie.
  • Assemble the Brie en Croute
Place the wheel of brie in the center of the rolled-out puff pastry. Spread your chosen jam or preserves over the top of the brie. If you’re adding nuts, sprinkle them over the jam.
  • Wrap the Brie
Fold the puff pastry over the brie, ensuring it’s completely enclosed. Trim any excess pastry and press the edges to seal. You can use a little beaten egg to help the pastry stick together if needed. Flip the wrapped brie over and place it seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Brush with Egg Wash
Coat the entire surface of the puff pastry with the beaten egg. This will give your brie en croute a beautiful golden-brown finish as it bakes.
  • Bake to Perfection
Place in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, until the puff pastry is beautifully golden and fully puffed. Monitor closely to avoid over-browning.
  • Let it Rest
Once baked, remove the brie en croute from the oven and let it rest for about 10 minutes. This allows the cheese to firm up slightly, making it easier to slice and serve.
  • Serve and Enjoy
Transfer the brie en croute to a serving platter. Cut into it gently, allowing the melted brie to ooze out. Serve with crackers or baguette slices. Enjoy the creamy, gooey goodness paired with the sweet jam and crunchy nuts.
